Above and beyond the existing IPA remit, the Scotland Group agenda for 2017-2019 has three priorities supported by three Forums:

  • 1. Commercial Forum: Championing advertising's contribution to the economy
  • 2. Effectiveness Forum: Sparking imagination and innovation amongst our people
  • 3. Talent Forum: Retaining and attracting the next generation of talent.

Creative Services Director

James has been working in the advertising industry for the last 30 years. Having started his career as a production manager for Cato Johnson then part of the Y&R group back in the 80s, he has since worked at agencies such as Publicis, BBH, Elvis, Weapon 7, Jam and the publishing company Northern and Shell. He has been involved in the formation of both AIS and Personal and the Serbian digital production company Fabrika in the UK. James moved to Glasgow in 2014 with his wife and daughter and a love of the Glaswegian music scene. He joined Frame, a creative agency based in Glasgow as their Creative Services Director and member of the agency’s management team, where he co-ordinates all of Frame’s creative output and manages its production, art buying and studio services. James also lectures a module in Digital at the IPA TV Producers Knowledge course.

Brian is a Partner at The Leith Agency where he leads the agency’s largest integrated accounts covering projects from brand development through to multi-media campaigns. He has 10 years experience of working on social marketing including the ground-breaking campaign to introduce the ban on smoking in public places in Scotland. Other areas of experience include nation branding and international marketing for economic development and tourism. Prior to joining Leith, Brian was responsible for marketing communications activity for Eon and Barclays Bank throughout the United Kingdom. He started working life at market research agency Millward Brown.

Having previously held communications planning and digital roles at Dentsu Aegis and GroupM agencies, he is a well-rounded individual and experienced digital marketer. With first-hand knowledge across a wide variety of business sectors he is familiar and skilled in both brand and response led digital marketing campaigns. Claire Wood, Associate Planner, Leith Agency Claire worked at Newhaven Agency in Edinburgh as Planning Director before the agency was acquired by the Leith Agency in the summer 2013, working with the Scottish Government, Tennent Caledonian Breweries and Scottish Water amongst others. Having worked as a planner in advertising agencies in Scotland for 16 years, including previously at the Leith Agency, and RAPP Edinburgh where she was Head of Planning, Claire has worked with a range of clients including A G Barr, The Herald newspaper, The Co-operative Group and the Scottish Government. Claire has won an IPA Effectiveness Award with The Leith Agency for a Scottish Government campaign tackling drug dealers, and Marketing Society Scotland Star Awards and Financial Services Forum Marketing Effectiveness papers. In 2011, Claire joined the IPA Scotland Group and was leader of the Social/Events Forum before being appointed Chairman in May 2013. As part of her Chairmanship, Claire will represent the views of IPA members in Scotland as ex-officio member on IPA Council.
