IPA survey suggests advertising agency industry believe their business prospects are better if the UK remains part of the EU

The Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA) today announced the results of a recent survey of members which showed:

  • 88% of respondents felt that prospects for their business were better if the UK remains within the EU
  • 4% felt that prospects were better if the UK left the EU
  • 8% felt it would have no impact either way on their business

The views include most of the UK’s biggest agencies, although there were some notable abstentions who felt the issue was so sensitive they were not in a position to respond to the question on behalf of all of their clients and people.

Speaking about the upcoming referendum Tom Knox, IPA President said ‘I believe this is an issue of vital importance to the industry we all work in and love. I also believe we should make our voice heard in the debate. With Advertising contributing over £100 billion to the UK economy and responsible for employing over 150,000 people in the UK it’s too important for our industry not to have a collective view of what’s happening within society’.

He went on to say ‘In speaking to our members we wanted to get their views as employers and business owners operating within what’s become a global business. This majority support shows how important it is to them’.

All IPA members were sent the survey with a 33% response rate.
