J. Walter Thompson’s Ian Hutton passes away

Members and staff of the IPA were deeply saddened to learn that Ian Hutton, a long-standing copywriter at J. Walter Thompson, has passed away.

Ian joined J. Walter Thompson in 1971 and spent over 25 years writing some of J. Walter Thompson's most memorable and enjoyable ads, collecting armfuls of awards along the way.

Amongst his creations wereThe Kit Kat “Quackers” (Duck Shoot), the BT animals campaign, many Guinness ads, the Kellogg’s Corn Flakes Spike Milligan commercials that launched TV-AM*, the Irish Tourist Board Keith Floyd campaign and the Kellogg’s Bran Flakes “Tasty, Tasty, Very Very Tasty” ads.

A memorial service will be held at Farm Street Church, 114 Mount Street on Tuesday 29th November at 2pm, followed by drinks at the The Kings Head on 10 Stafford Street, W1S 4RX.

Ian’s family request that instead of flowers, donations to Shelter would be welcomed.
