2016 IPA Scotland Student Advertising Awards shortlist revealed

Six exceptional entries have been shortlisted for the 2016 IPA Scotland Student Advertising Awards run in association with Skills Development Scotland, which seek creatively-minded students looking to start their careers in advertising . The winner will be announced on 12 May to coincide with the IPA Scotland’s 50th anniversary event which will celebrate 50 years of Scottish creativity.

Entrants were set a live brief by the Scottish Government ‘Greener Scotland’ team to encourage the population of Scotland to work together to adopt behaviours to reduce their carbon footprint. The shortlisted entries include an app displaying energy output in real-time, the ability to switch off appliances remotely, green superheroes and using worms to highlight the extent to which humans waste food.

The shortlist are:

  • Kendra Bodles and Laura Scott from Edinburgh Napier University
  • Diarmuid Corkery & Diana Skof from Edinburgh Napier University
  • Corina Cristea and Julie Geiger from Edinburgh Napier University
  • Chris McCance and Mirjam Perkmann from Edinburgh Napier University
  • Dora Shen from University of Edinburgh

All the shortlisted entrants will be given mentors to help them launch their careers in advertising and the winners will be given paid placements within leading Scottish advertising agencies, with the overall Grand Prix winner also being given £1000.

Says David Martin, Key Sector Manager for Creative Industries at Skills Development Scotland, “Ensuring new entrants are well-prepared for a creative sector career is a key aim of the Skills Investment Plan for Scotland’s Creative Industries published last year. The IPA is one of a broad range of industry voices involved in the plan, with the IPA Scotland Student Advertising Awards offering a new way for students to gain valuable knowledge and experience. I’d like to congratulate all of those who have made the shortlist and wish them the very best of luck.”

Says Pauline Aylesbury, Head of Strategy and Insight, Scottish Government, “Most of us can do more to reduce the impact we have on the environment and making greener lifestyle choices can be easier than people think. The Greener Scotland campaign aims to encourage more people to help make Scotland a cleaner, greener place to live. Supporting the IPA Scotland Student Advertising Awards gives Scottish Government the opportunity to help people kick-start their chosen careers in advertising and get Scotland to go greener together.”
