Agencies wanted for IPA Summer School
Building on the success of last year’s Summer School, the IPA is hoping to make it bigger and better, with more agencies involved covering all the different disciplines within advertising. This is where you come in… Can your agency play host to one or more students for the 10 week summer period.
What is the Summer School?
The Summer School will run during the 2009 summer vacation and offers students a real introduction to agency life by providing them with the experience that can prove crucial in getting a job in this exciting and highly competitive sector.
The Summer School is aimed at UK students between years two and three of a conventional three year degree course, but applications will be accepted from third and final year students.
In addition to the work placement, the Summer School will also provide a series of special evening seminars and social events so they will get to meet other students, see other agencies, and meet industry experts.
The IPA will coordinate the placements in top agencies in London. To select the right candidates, students will have to submit a short essay or a sample of their own creative writing. A specific brief will be prepared which the students must answer.
The successful students will spend the summer, 6th July - 10th September, working in a top London agency. They will be paid £1,000 plus reasonable travel expenses.
What would be expected from you?
To host the student from 6th July-10th September.
To pay £1500 to upfront. This covers the student completion payment plus a £500 administration fee.
To provide a non-HR mentor for each student, who is responsible for the student’s welfare and for devising and managing an ‘experience programme’ for the student.
Says Ben Hart, Partner at Glass Partnership, “Glass loved taking part in the summer school last year, it was a brilliant opportunity to help along our projects and clients with some new ideas, energy and talent. It was also a good opportunity to start looking at a more considered internship programme which we have since implemented. I think the fact our summer school placement is still with us nine months later probably speaks for itself.”
