The rules were last reviewed in 2008 after the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive (“UCPD”) was implemented into UK law by the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations (“CPRs”). The purpose of the proposed amendments is to update the rules to take into account interpretation of the law since then. The consultation asks 15 questions involving changes to the rules, many of which the IPA considers would be less onerous on advertisers than the current rules.
