Former IPA President, Nicola Mendelsohn, lands top Facebook job
Mendelsohn – the IPA’s first female President – stepped down from her role in April this year, leaving behind a legacy of talent and innovation.
During her tenure, she set up the Creative Pioneers strategy – an enduring plan to keep the advertising industry focused on skills, markets, connections and innovations. The initiative saw 1,000 people signed up as fresh new digital and creative talent.
As President of the IPA, building global connections was very much part of Mendelsohn’s agenda. Leading trade missions to China and Brazil, she also took a study tour to Silicon Valley and Hollywood, meeting with leading technology businesses and film studios such as Google, Facebook and Twentieth Century Fox.
Indeed, Facebook sponsored the IPA Effectiveness Awards in 2011 and 2012 as a direct result of Mendelsohn’s trade mission.
She also fought the women’s corner – setting up the ‘Women of Tomorrow’ competition with Campaign magazine. The competition – a real first for the advertising industry – is an opportunity for any woman in middle management to demonstrate her leadership potential.
Says Paul Bainsfair, Director General of the IPA; “Nicola Mendelsohn was an inspirational President, forging links with the digital industry at the highest levels during her tenure. Her Creative Pioneer and Women of Tomorrow initiatives demonstrate her passion for continued growth in advertising. I wish her every success in her new role at Facebook”.
