IPA draws members' attention to Facebook policy update

The IPA is drawing members’attention to a change in Facebook policy that will affect the use of social plugins on the site. In particular, it will no longer be possible to incentivise the “liking” of a Page, whether by using the need to “like” a Page as barrier to entry of a promotion, or the “like-gating” of content. Brands have until 5 November 2014 to comply.

Says India Forsyth, Senior Legal Counsel at the IPA, “Agencies should also keep in mind that in addition to compliance with Facebook’s policies, promotions must, as always, also comply with local laws, particularly those relating to gambling and lotteries, and any regulatory codes in force, such as the CAP Code in the UK.”
