Says Alex Hunter: “Apart from the fun of being involved with a vibrant trade association, my job satisfaction has been in promoting the commercial aspects of the advertising industry at a time when it has never been so important for this sector to demonstrate its professionalism. It’s been an enjoyable seven years, mostly over a recessionary period when any trade body has needed to keep its members’ confidence in its financial worth and probity. But the time has come to move on and I would wish my successor as much enjoyment of the role – and the excellent team – that I leave behind.”
Alex Hunter joined the IPA from outside the advertising industry after a career in banking, IT services and property investment, in London, Riyadh and Amsterdam. Initiatives under his Directorship have included: negotiating a new 80-year lease, picking a quality e-learning supplier, updating the Agency Remuneration best practice guide, instigating the Agency Charge-Out survey, getting banks to compete for IPA deposits, and making representation to the Treasury on creative industries tax relief, and to HMRC on specific VAT and National Insurance issues.
Says IPA Paul Bainsfair: “Alex has been an excellent Financial Director of the IPA. In his time at the IPA the industry has had to weather challenging times and his financial leadership has been greatly appreciated. He has been a trusted and respected advisor to many of our member’s own finance teams. We wish him a long and happy retirement.”
