The IPA’s new courses, ranging from the Fundamentals of Branding to Advanced Leadership, Commercial Acumen to Advanced Strategy, will equip you with the skills to add value to your agency and clients and advance your career. As of this year, they will also provide you with a badge of professionalism, with each delegate who successfully completes a post course assignment receiving one star towards becoming an accredited MIPA, a rigorous qualifications-based standard to put advertising on the same professional footing as accountants, architects and lawyers.

Says Patrick Mills, IPA Director of Professional Development: “The introduction of accredited MIPA is critical for agency staff so they are recognised and respected by employers, head hunters, clients and peers, and highlights their qualifications. Inevitably, this will push them to the front of the queue for faster promotions, higher salaries and new opportunities.”
Each course will have an online learning zone which will host further reading, case studies and a discussion area to offer delegates extra support and in-depth learning, following which the candidates will be expected to complete the written assignment.
Overview of 2017 MIPA star courses:
This will cover learning to lead yourself and others, what will make you a great agency leader, leadership and your amplified self, leading a more effective team, getting around the complexity of multifunctional and multiagency teams and what industry leaders on wish they’d known when they started out.
This will teach junior adlanders to think more purposefully about how branding and communication work. It will cover the philosophies, models of thinking and methodologies of the past and how these schools of thought can be applied or evolved to maximise the digitised future.
This will cover integrated strategy, the death of the big idea, the power of brand now, why brands are still important in a commoditised market, how to use data to gain better insight and get to better strategies, beating the algorithm and what is an agile strategist?
Understanding your client’s business and business strategy through the numbers, looking at your agency’s business and how it works, making money and delivering value, the principles of value based pricing, how to success with procurement, negotiation skills workshop.
What is the value of great work to an agency, what do we need to get great work, what does the future look like, how to achieve more ‘firsts’, top 10 tips to sell great creative work, what has changed and what has stayed the same in the new tech age, proving that better work does a better job, why creativity still so important and examples of the work that is the most creative and effective in the industry.
Getting under the skin of your clients, why my business and team need
you, what you can do that my team and I cannot, understanding your client’s business, top tips for a great and long lasting client/agency relationship and being entrepreneurial.
To gain professional accreditation, individuals need to be employed by an IPA member agency. They will also need to have accumulated 5 stars of IPA qualifications, and completed at least 24 hours of eligible industry learning in each of the previous three years.
