The IPA has welcomed the Government's response to its consultation on fixed-odds betting terminals, online gambling and gambling advertising announced today (17th May).
In their response, the Government has welcomed the “substantial progress” that the advertising industry has made in respect of the package of measures set out in the consultation, and says that getting advertising protections right is an essential part of protecting vulnerable people, whilst acknowledging that problem gambling rates have remained relatively stable during a period of considerable growth in advertising volumes.
Says Richard Lindsay, IPA Director of Legal & Public Affairs: “The Government’s response is certainly encouraging for agencies. It is clearly pleased with the work that the industry has done in response to its consultation, acknowledging the “substantial progress” achieved across industry, including by CAP and the ASA. It is also good to see the Government looking at the evidence, which shows that problem gambling rates have remained relatively stable during a period of considerable growth in advertising volumes. We can’t stand still, however, and must be aware of the various initiatives still coming through the pipeline, in particular, from the Gambling Commission.”
