Professional expertise of ad industry set to swell with over 1000 practitioners on cusp of achieving official MIPA accreditation

Over 1000 industry employees are on the brink of becoming officially professionally qualified, through the IPA’s rigorous MIPA Accreditation scheme.

The Accredited MIPA Scheme is the most visible, robust badge of professionalism, designed to put the ad industry’s employees on the same footing as accountants, architects and lawyers. Individuals qualify following their completion of a selection of IPA courses and qualifications, alongside ongoing Continuous Professional Development training. These 1000 potential MIPAs, who must complete only a small amount of additional training to secure their accolade, will join the industry’s existing 300 MIPA-Accredited individuals.

The IPA has charted the increasing importance that individuals are placing on their career progression, calculating that over 21,000 practitioners from 87 countries have now attained an IPA qualification. These qualifications range from the entry-level IPA Foundation Certificate to boardroom MBA, covering all the major practice areas: brand and strategy, people and leadership, creativity, and commercial.

Says Leanne Silman, Accredited MIPA at M&C Saatchi: “There’s never been a time when it’s more important to up-skill and professionalise. As the role of the advertising agency has diversified and expanded, so must the breadth of knowledge of those within the industry. The IPA qualifications are an excellent way to equip yourself to be a true partner to your client, add more value to your agency and help propel your career."

Says Patrick Mills, Director of Membership and Professional Development, IPA: “Our industry has always demonstrated outstanding skills and expertise. Developing the Accredited MIPA Scheme is our way of acknowledging the remarkable professional talent in advertising. Becoming an Accredited MIPA will enable you to show your value and experience to clients and should be worn with pride. It is a highly competitive landscape, both for individuals and agencies, so we should all be looking for any advantage that we can get. Becoming an Accredited MIPA is a great way of separating yourself from the pack.”

The industry-wide professional accreditation is also becoming increasingly popular among recruiters, with the IPA recently agreeing a partnership with Major Players - the UK’s biggest recruiter for digital, creative and tech talent - to offer discounted access to MIPA courses and 100 hours of free learning for freelancers.

Says Allison Upton, Director of Marketing, Major Players: “It is important that we can offer our clients the most qualified candidates possible, and developing an industry-wide mark of professionalism is an important way to do this. We are delighted to be able to offer our loyal freelancers this exciting opportunity, which will give them additional tools needed to become recognised for their expertise.”
