The power of empathy

IPA Training Forum

In this virtual IPA Training Forum, we’ll explore empathy—what it is, what it isn’t, and why it’s more important than ever. We’ll discuss the growing empathy crisis, driven by self-interest, data, and profit, and uncover ways to bridge the gap and foster stronger connections.

Content:

Empathy is essential for psychological safety and well-being. It allows us to step outside our own perspectives to understand others’ challenges. When done well, it creates harmony; when ignored, it leads to division. Yet empathy is often dismissed as a “nice-to-have” or a weakness, especially in fast-paced, data-driven workplaces. This mindset overlooks a key truth: empathy builds connection and strengthens relationships, which are essential for success.

Agencies thrive on data, client demands, and high-energy teams. But data only tells part of the story, and unrealistic demands can lead to burnout. A reactive workplace risks failure, while a responsive workplace—one built on empathy, respect, and resilience—ensures teams, clients, and businesses succeed together.
Our reliance on screens and devices is widening the empathy gap, disconnecting us from colleagues, families, and the environment. To bridge this, we need an empathy map—focusing on trust, curiosity, and understanding. Resilient teams thrive when leaders champion empathy as a core value, creating workplaces where people feel supported and connected.

Empathy isn’t just good for individuals—it’s essential for long-term success. So, I leave you with this question: Can you truly build success without empathy?
