What does a New Business Director do at M.i. Media?

A New Business Director would be ultimately responsible for all new business and marketing within the agency. Reporting into the Managing Director they would form new business and marketing strategy, drive, manage and triage our new business funnel, lead our new business pitch process, and work with the team to implement marketing strategy. In effect, doing for M.i. what we do for our clients; accelerating growth.

We would expect a New Business Director to immerse themselves in the M.i. business, understand what makes us brilliant and use that to drive our growth. Equally we like to be challenged, and there is always the opportunity to feed into how to make the company even better.

What qualities does a New Business Director need at M.i. Media?

What experience and skills are required?

A New Business Director at M.i. Media would ideally have a strong media agency background with around 8 years experience.
Ideally they would have some level of experience in working specifically in business development within an agency, but this is not essential. Failing this they must have solid new business pitching experience within media agencies, ideally having run pitches.

Some level of marketing experience, such as contribution to an agency’s thought pieces, appearing on panels or other forms of agency marketing.
Someone that builds relationships with ease, is approachable and professional is essential. They will be a key face representing the business. They will need the ability to multitask; manage multiple deadlines and different (often senior) stakeholders at once.

We have big growth ambitions, and as an instrumental person in delivering this they will need to be enthusiastic, positive and ambitious.
Client experience within the financial services, ecommerce, and DTC sectors a bonus.

The role would involve the following day to day responsibilities amongst others:

Prospecting
• Helping to form and understand our new business targets
• Creating the strategy to deliver our new business targets
• Researching new potential opportunities, and supporting the new business manager in doing so
• Using our tools to assist in development of target lists, timelines and strategies
• Partner strategy, including nurturing existing and researching and building new partnerships
• Working with, and building relationships with, intermediaries

Pitching
• Managing our new business pipeline and status at all times
• Triaging / qualifying all new business leads as they come in
• Understanding skillset and capacity across the wider team and putting together winning pitch teams
• Pitch project manager, ensuring quality work and winning pitch processes
• Training junior to senior levels in new business pitching
• Continuing to develop and hone our agency credentials and pitch armoury

Marketing
• Website strategy, leading website team and content management
• Social media strategy, leading management
• Developing content strategy in line with new business targets
• Content project management – managing timelines, supporting writers, editing – alongside new business manager
• Working with, and building relationships with, key industry press contacts
• Case study strategy and supporting new business manager in project management of case study development
• Award strategy development and supporting new business manager in award entry project management
• Developing our event strategy and supporting new business manager in project management of events

Management
• Specifically line managing a New Business & Marketing Manager – supporting them in their development and ensuring they deliver the needs of the new business team
• Will also involve management of various people across the agency in different projects
