The Benefits of Hiring an Apprentice

Hiring an apprentice is a productive and effective way to grow talent and develop a motivated, skilled and qualified workforce. Find out why apprenticeships are a great way to address diversification and inclusivity in your agencies below.

Apprenticeships are an exciting option for both apprentice and employer because:

  • Those from more diverse socio-economic backgrounds have a paid job not an internship, so they can afford to work for your business and live independently. Sure, you pay their wage but every part of training is designed so they add value when they come back from it, making them very cost effective.
  • There is excellent training throughout the year, paid for either by levy money from the government or levy transfers
  • Good training providers will adapt the training to help your apprentice flourish, for example, for neurodiversity reasons
  • There is a mentor to help 'belonging' and retention
  • The apprentice achieves a qualification, which puts them in good stead for the future and is appealing to communities who value professions
  • You can hire pretty much any adult of any age, graduate or non-graduate
  • You can use them to upskill existing employees, harking back to the days when someone could go from a job in despatch to management

The Bauer Academy have open programmes for Advertising and Media Executives and also Junior Advertising Creative Apprenticeships this September. So, there is a home for agencies just hiring one or two as account execs or media execs or junior creatives. We now have waves of apprentices who have successfully passed these apprenticeships so Bauer can supply many happy testimonials from agencies and apprentices.

Please get in touch with genevieve.potter@bauermedia.co.uk by the end July 2022 to express interest (earlier if you'd like their help with recruitment). They will continue to offer branded cohorts to agencies who can field ten candidates at a time, but if this open programme is unfilled, they will not offer it again, so please consider this opportunity.

And for general queries about entry level talent recruitment and retention advice please email Gwyn March anytime, at gwyn@ipa.co.uk.
