The IPA has paid tribute to Dame Annette King following news of her death, announced last night (5 March 2026), recognising her as one of the most influential and respected figures in the UK advertising industry.
Dame Annette built a distinguished career in advertising and communications, most notably serving as CEO of Publicis Groupe UK, where she led one of the UK’s largest agency groups and oversaw thousands of employees across multiple agencies. In this role, she helped shape industry standards around leadership, talent development and agency culture, influencing many IPA member agencies.
Her impact on the profession was recognised by the IPA in 2021 when she was awarded Fellowship of the IPA (FIPA) in our New Year Honours. The accolade recognises individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to advertising and the advancement of the industry.
Dame Anette was also widely respected for her work beyond the agency world. As Chair of the Advertising Association from 2022 to 2024, she helped guide the sector through a challenging economic period marked by global instability and domestic pressures. During this time, she was a strong advocate for advertising’s role in supporting economic growth and recovery, while strengthening engagement between the industry and government.
Her services to advertising and marketing were recognised nationally when she was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 2023 New Year Honours.
“Annette was one of the most respected and admired leaders in our industry. She combined exceptional strategic and commercial leadership with a genuine commitment to improving the culture and future of advertising.
“We were proud to recognise her with Fellowship of the IPA in 2021. Her leadership, generosity and belief in the positive role our industry can play will be remembered by many across our community. Our thoughts are with her family, friends and colleagues at this very sad time.”
