Profile

Transmission has transformed almost beyond recognition since it began as a media and content marketing agency back in 2013, when it was known as Pulse. Steady but meaningful growth has been key, with Transmission officially launching as a non-tech B2B marketing agency in 2017. Founder Chris Bagnall had a team of 52 at the time, operating from offices in the UK and Germany – where it had established B2B tech agency Pace the year before.

Today, it is widely recognised as the largest independently owned global B2B marketing agency. Following the acquisition of Earnest in 2025, the agency has 260 staff in offices all over the world.

Offering more than 100 services – from paid media and creative to data science consulting – it is not surprising Transmission has amassed some of the world’s biggest brands, from Microsoft and Allianz to Samsung and Mastercard.

But, if Chris’s many years of experience has taught him anything, it’s to not get too hung up on making a profit in the early-mid years. Instead, a focus on investing in people and growing its footprint “at the expense of making money” has put Transmission in much better stead for long-term growth.

Indeed, Transmission made the top 30 in the Financial Times’ list of Europe’s 100 long-term growth champions in 2024, and Chris himself was awarded the LDC’s International Ambition Award in 2021, which recognises founders who have demonstrated resilience and strategic excellence and played a vital part in the UK’s economic recovery.

“If you’re not evolving your positioning and service, and how you can help clients on a relatively continued basis, don’t think you can stay relevant,” says Chris. “You have to push all the time.”

‘Connectivity’ is Transmission’s internal word of the year, and this year’s push will be towards using AI to better connect its growing suite of services. Steady growth has been key, but Chris has not been afraid to take calculated risks along the way. It is this willingness to move with the times and meet clients where they are that has ensured the agency continues to thrive today.
