Implementation of the 1983 Griffiths report concerning nurses roles had produced some adverse effects. The RCN needed to show they were not against greater efficiency but that the changes were damaging to patient care and not successful in practice. Campaign was to educate about the adverse effects and to force legislation to ensure a director of nursing would be working with the general manager in all NHS units. Press campaign was small scale with some Pr support. Resulted in a high response with editorial coverage and much support from MP's, followed by government action.
