Campaign to support the 'Spotlight on Safer Streets' campaign of Strathclyde Police, aimed at reducing crime and fear of crime. Specific objective: to discourage knife-carrying by young men. A multi-media campaign ? TV on STV, posters (transport mediums), 'Scannervision' (a video on roof of the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall), endorsement on restaurant takeaway packaging. Evaluation: during campaign period (June) violent crime decreased 16.8%, knife crime 7%, offensive weapons 8% compared to previous year. Pattern continued into July. During the 6 month holistic campaign, murder, attempted murder and robberies all fell. The initiative was perceived to be a success.
